On YouTube, your channel name shows up beside every video and every comment you post. These fonts for YouTube help that name, your series titles and your comments look different from everyone else’s.
YouTube is also a search engine, though, and that changes the rules. We built this guide around one idea: style the parts people look at, and keep the words people search for plain.
How Fonts for YouTube Work
Fonts for YouTube are Unicode characters that look like bold, script, gothic or framed letters. YouTube stores them as normal text, and viewers see the same shapes on their phone, TV or computer.
That also explains the search problem. To YouTube, 𝕞𝕪 𝕔𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕟𝕖𝕝 is a different set of characters from “my channel,” and a viewer typing the plain words may never see your styled version.
Where Can You Use Styled Text on YouTube?
Each field in YouTube Studio has its own job and its own limit. Here is how we treat each one on the channels we help with.
Channel Name
The channel name accepts most styled text, and it shows beside every video and comment you post. YouTube lets you change it twice within 14 days, which gives you room to test a style and switch back if you need to.
Handle
Your @handle is stricter than your name. It takes letters, numbers, periods, underscores and hyphens, between 3 and 30 characters, and styled letters are refused.
Video Titles
Titles can be up to 100 characters long, and they carry most of your search value. We style only a short series tag, like ★EP 12★, and keep the topic of the video in plain words.
Descriptions and Comments
Descriptions hold up to 5,000 characters, and comments accept styled text too. A styled heading line inside a description, like a bold “Chapters” label, makes a long description easier to scan.
How Do You Change Your Channel Name to a Styled Font?
YouTube moved these settings into YouTube Studio, and the steps are the same on a computer and in the mobile app:
- Create the Styled Name: Type your channel name in the Your text box and compare a few styles, starting with Letter styles for bold or small caps.
- Copy One Version: Tap Copy on the card you like best, and keep a plain copy of the name somewhere safe too.
- Open YouTube Studio: Go to Customization and then the Profile tab, where your name and handle live.
- Paste the New Name: Replace the old name with your styled version and look at the preview beside your profile picture.
- Publish the Change: Click Publish, and remember that your two changes in 14 days start counting from here.
The YouTube Styles That Read Best
Viewers often see your name at a small size, under a thumbnail or beside a comment. Bold, sans bold and small caps stay readable at that size, while thin script and heavy combining marks can blur.
Symbol frames are the safest way to add flair. A frame like ♡my channel♡ or ★my channel★ keeps every letter of your name normal, and viewers can still read and type it.
We suggest choosing one style and using it everywhere your channel appears. A matching name and series label make your videos look like they belong together.
Styled Text on Smart TV Apps
Smart TVs and older phones carry fewer Unicode characters than newer devices. A style that looks perfect on your laptop can show up as boxes on a TV app, which is where many people watch.
If you care about TV viewers, stick with bold, small caps or a symbol frame. Those styles show correctly on far more screens than rare ones like Medieval Runes or Radiant Sparkles.
Should You Style Your Video Titles?
Lightly, yes. A styled episode tag or a single styled word helps your title stand out on the home feed, and the plain topic words still do the work in search.
Avoid styling the full title, though. You lose search traffic, and screen readers may read the title as a string of strange character names.
How Should You Style Your Channel?
Start with a bold or framed channel name and a plain handle, and then add a small styled tag to your series titles. If you also post Shorts and clips elsewhere, our Fonts for TikTok page covers the shorter bio and caption limits there.
